77th Winter Meeting - January, 2009
The United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) held its 77th Winter Meeting, held January 17 – January 19, 2009. During the three-day tour, Strauss Radio Strategies, Inc. booked national and local radio interviews for 40 mayors from throughout the country. During the interviews, the mayors discussed the USCM Economic Recovery Plan and the atmosphere in Washington, DC on what was the weekend before President Barack Obama’s Inauguration.
Strauss Radio Strategies set up total of 69 interviews for the radio tour. Interviews were done with San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome, Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villariagosa, Boston Mayor Tom Menino, and Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, among many others.
Interview coverage reached five national outlets, 14 statewide news networks, one regional news network, and 49 local radio stations for a total of 7,570 radio outlet hits throughout the United States. The interviews were heard by at least 13,683,400 people nationwide (based on the latest data from Arbitron).
If one were to pay for equivalent advertising time for the interviews, which amounted to a total of 690 airtime minutes (11 ½ hours) at the average 60-second spot rate of $979 for these outlets, it would have cost a total of $675,510. In other words, this radio tour reached over 13.5 million listeners and is valued at more than $675,000.
